Chief of al-Qaeda filia was killed by France

Lot of important things are happening those days. We have coronavirus pandemic. Protests in the USA. And now death of Abdelmalek Droukdel - chief of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), the Isalmic terroristic group.

Terrorist's life
He was born in Algeria and at the day of his death, was 50. His mentor was Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, a man who ran a terrorist training camp in Afganistan and was responsible for many attacks during the Iraq War. After his death in 2006, Droukdel published a statement in the internet, where he said:
O infidels and apostates, your joy will be brief and you will cry for a long time... we are all Zarqawi.
He is also said to be responsible for introducing suicide bombing to Algeria.

Leader of the group
He was a leader of GSPC, an Algerian terroristic group, which joined al-Qaeda in 2007. Since that time it's name has been 'Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb' (AQIM). He was a local leader of this al-Qaeda's filia in Africa. His main area was Maghreb and Sahel. Under his leadership, AQIM carried out assult on a hotel in Burkino Faso capital city, in 2016. France is the only western country, which takes serious actions to fight with the terrorism in this part of the world. And on 3 of June, they actually made it.

Florence Parly, the chief of Defence Department in France, wrote on Twitter, that
On June 3, French army forces, with the support of their local partners, killed the emir of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, Abdelmalek Droukdel, and several of his closest collaborators, during an operation in northern Mali.
She also reminded, that during the meeting in Pau on 13 of January, France and countries of the G5 Sahel group (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger) confirmed their determination to continue actions, which need to be taken to fight with terrorism in Sahel and Sahara.

Terrorism in Mali
In 2012, Mali was under control of terroristic groups, like al-Qaeda and Islamic State. Since that time, many attacks had happend. Thousands of people lost their lives, any many more were resettled. The biggest violence is in the north and the centre of Mali. But it started to spread to other countries, like Niger and Burkina Faso. Here is the map, where You should not traval in Mali:
